It was just supposed to be a lazy paperwork Friday Cody Lorance … right up until he got the letter from the Texas Department of Public Safety … technically his former employers (the Texas Rangers operate under the TxDPS structure).
The contents of the letter basically summarized as … “You’re suspended and you have a week before we have a meeting to discuss if this becomes permanent.” Apparently a week back, a writer for the Dallas Observer published an article about Dallas’s brand new Detective Agency with the nearly 100% success rate … and how the guy that started it was a gun crazed redneck former Texas Ranger that had been fired for gunning down a non-white with an AR-15. Clearly with somebody so unstable as the proprietor of the detective agency… the success rate had to be crap… or, fabricated.
Cody didn’t take it well… leaving Marisa and Brett to pick up the pieces of his shattered office and he storms out.
Bright Red Bike
The rest of Friday seems to go uneventfully. Another evening of drinking and gossip at the Fortress of Estrogen.
At the conclusion of which, Erica ‘Black Canary’ Goodchilde heads out to join Elena on Patrol. During the course of it they catch sight of something that would probably only be jarring to a handful of individuals in the Metroplex … Raven Harper‘s red Harley Davidson Softail Fatboy in a bike cavalcade with Mayan’s bikes… but nobody is wearing Mayan colors. It’s some new Biker Group and nobody recognizes the emblems.
Not exactly expecting to need to keep up with vehicles, they have to acquire wheeled transportation. When they pick up the trail again, it’s gone to Richardson. Two hours later, just after midnight, after chasing down some dead-end leads, they find the bike gang again… except this time they’re leaving Richardson again. What’s going on?
Equipped with what they need to pursue, they track the bike gang back to Da Grove and a run down apartment complex. After doing some snooping around, some indicators seem to point to some really scary and really evil magical powers being in effect… and Aztec rituals. Specifically… severed ritual skulls and puddles of blood near one of the motorcycles.
That’s enough to warrant a shout out for assistance…
Conor, Roxie, and Cody meet up with Elena and Erica in Richardson – where the motorcycle gang appeared to have “vanished” for 2 hours and the direction that Erica’s “ping” spell is indicating they can find the source of the blood that was found.
What they discover is a horror story… a residential address with no power. When they go in, it’s a scene from a gruesome movie. There are a dozen mutilated corpses and it looks like a scene from the Movie Hellraiser. Worse, everything reeks of Infernal Magic…
Among the dead were a few faces they recognized…
GM Note: The lion’s share of the rest of The Confederacy that has up until now gone unnamed within the plot form the rest of the bodies… i.e. The Freakshow is basically gone as an NPC Group except for the remaining named individuals.
Friday the 13th
That’s when the phone calls started going out and the news started trickling in…
St. Patrick’s Church in Dallas is on fire. There’s absolutely no way this is coincidence.
The arrive to see the entire main Chapel in flames, all the way to the tall tower/steeple. The gorgeous eight stained glass windows of the beatitudes so much molten metal and flakes of glass shrapnel on the charred grass.
They try to get in contact with somebody, anybody, preferably The Reverend Father and eventually find him.
Surrounded by police and medical personal in full CDC hazard suits.
It appears that ten individuals within the church are suffering from pronounced effects of various diseases. One of the police officers mentions “Look like lepers.” Though the heroes cannot get close enough to tell. Animal control is also there, tending to whatever it was that killed the various animals in and around the grounds.
The ten people were The Reverend, The Vicar of St. Patrick’s Father Ian McFarlane, and eight guests at the facility. The heroes suspect they know the identities of the 8 guests… the Knights .
Something bad is happening…. really bad.
