The heroes get down to the brass tacks of plotting their next move. At Atwaters’s, in the upstairs area, the group discusses options.
Meanwhile, with the chaotic state of affairs in the city, the investigator for the DA’s office, John Wolf also figures out that the clues don’t add up. When in doubt, go to Atwater’s to investigate. While there, he meets up with Chrys who is here to investigate the mess that some of her low-wildfae friends were asked to clean up in Conor O’Neill’s apartment.
So apparently there’s a party for the purpose of plotting and scheming DOOM! … at Atwater’s Speakeasy on Good Friday just before midnight!
The gang’s all here, and most of the gang begins discussing magical attack plans. Meanwhile John Wolf gets to know more about the supernatural word in which he’s found himself… apparently there are LOTS of other supernaturals and he’s only just begun to peck the surface.
After figuring out a plan of action (involving magical sonar and other assorted methods of kicking in magical protections…) the group mobilizes to K-Town and the headquarters of their old nemesis… the KBZ and their Korean Fae “red-skinned dude.”
As the heroes set up a perimeter around the compound, they’re observed by some kind of strange man-bird creature. John Wolf is the only one that notices. Though she was supposed to draw a massive magic circle around the heroes, after brief discussion Elena Torres’s sent up to investigate. She then proceeds to bring the bird-man down… and not gently either. It does however get off a few blood curdling shrieks.
As the bird-man is dragged back, Erica’s “sonar” spell completes its work and she knows where Midori’s parents (the kidnap victims) are being held. About that time, Johnny K steps out of the warehouse and motions for the group to come up. Apparently they know the heroes are there. Uh oh.
After discussion with the leader of the KBZ, an agreement is very very begrudgingly reached… the heroes get back Midori’s parents, the heroes leave and take no further action in the KBZ’s business. Nobody is happy about it… except maybe Midori and Erica.
During the negotiations, Erica opens her Sight to see what’s really going on. Lacking a better descriptor, she sees the creature in front of her, as well as four others similar too him… as Power Rangers – five totemic animals, five colors, five elements… and they’re all ready to fight. Magical defenses and trapped wards are up in full force.
… the heroes retreat for a short time, allowing Midori to take her folks back home.
Now, at nearly four in the morning at Atwater’s … he heroes again discuss. What to do?
Another individual then joins the heroes in their meeting… Wani… the leader of the Dallas Yakuza (such as it exists) and also the resident Jade Court vampire. He offers his assistance in dealing with the Korean Fae… in exchange for terms that are unpalatable to most of the heroes involved.
Then 24 hours pass.
During these 24 hours the heroes call in a few favors, markers, and allies.
The Fort Wolf Posse is mobilized to act as the “assault team” …
Midori and Uncle enchant bullets with Eastern “Onmyoji” magic…
Any members of the Freakshow willing to help … Barbara, Belle Starr, Pallas (under protest and only because Belle’s going) and Santiago Martinez agree to provide a safe “Aid Station” behind the front lines.
Then, at 5am on Easter morning…
Easter Sunday, Bloody Sunday
…with red-shelled Invictae swarms providing the Forlorn Hope (the group that first attacks the walls and takes the highest casualties)… the “good guys” assault the magically fortified headquarters of the Korean Fae (Dokkaebi).
Blood, ectoplasm, spells, and bullets are everywhere. The Scooby Squad plus Chrysanthemum provides a magical defensive “air cover” against the “heavy artillery” of the Dokkaebi group magic. The Werewolves provide the “assault squad” with Elena, Cody, and John Wolf provide literal fire support.
When it’s all over the Korean Fae stronghold is burned to the ground. Several tons of narcotics is destroyed as well as hundreds of individual illegal firearms. Most significantly, nearly two dozen women, trafficked from Eastern Europe, are freed.
The butcher’s bill for the victors includes two werewolves that succumb to wounds inflicted, Invictae beyond counting dissolve into ectoplasmic goo, and nearly all are injured in some way who were involved in the building assault.
But what is the hidden cost? Was this merely a pebble in the pond, or a stone? Stay tuned.
