Following the fire at the King Spa, Cody is forced to deal with the paperwork demanded anytime a law enforcement agent takes another life. The rest of the group heads back to Conor’s to check on Troublehammer the Ogre (after a stop by Burger King to get some food). The arrive to find a large ogre semi-drunk on what appeared to be eight five pound bags of gummy bears…
Shortly, Conor receives a disturbing text from Midori … her parents have been kidnapped. She’s currently at her parents house in Carrollton and it’s been broken into and vandalized. Though she can’t read it, the graffiti is in Korean. Looks like the KBZ strikes again. After Erica explains things, and in her stressed out situation worrying about Midori’s parents (especially Mama-san, basically her surrogate mother)… she manages to blow out Conor’s big screen TV and new iphone.
They set out for Carrollton in Elena’s vehicle. In Erica’s agitated state, the vehicle has a breakdown nearly at every intersection when Erica gives directions. At one of those intersections, finally in Midori’s old neighborhood, things get more interesting.
Automatic rifle fire riddles Elena’s car with holes.
What follows would have been a short but intense gun battle in a suburban area … troublesome in any situation … however a complication arrived in the form of a massive sonic boom – courtesy of Erica’s stressful and mentally agitated state. Glass shatters in a good 100 yard radius (give or take 20 yards) and car alarms start going off.
During the battle, a Korean… samurai?… brings a knife to a gunfight. However this particular warrior is wearing armor that appears to be crafted from … ogre … skin. He makes a bee-line for Jaime. It doesn’t take a genius to deduce that he feels pretty confident about his immunity to magic in his new ogre skin armor.
The battle is still probably shorter than the KBZ gangbangers intended. Elena puts two 45 caliber tablets of calming medication in the brain pans of two of the gunmen and the third takes off running. After Jaime nearly squashes the “samurai” with one of Elena’s car’s doors hurled at roughly 3 miles per hour below the speed of sound… he pulls out a “shugenja” scroll and vanishes in a cloud of “ninja smoke.”
The runner doesn’t get far… in fact he (while carrying his automatic rifle) runs directly into Matthew who was coming down that street in response to the gunfire and explosion. He had just been finishing up at the local Korean church where he’d been doing his interfaith Good Friday services. Matthew wraps him up in magical bubble-wrap to calm him down.
Cops are definitely coming now and lights are coming on in the neighborhood all over the place. In fact, Cody calls the heroes to alert them that Homeland Security, SWAT, and all sorts of folks are interested in the reports of an explosion. The T word – terrorists – is thrown around across the radio more than is comfortable.
The heroes book it to Midori’s house under a veil, courtesy of Jaime. Conor takes the “prisoner” back to his place to await the rest of the group there. As the first responding squad car goes rolling by, Jaime quickly begins gathering up components to cast a location spell. After a very brief discussion with Midori, the heroes get out of there (again under a veil). Midori goes running down the street getting the cops involved in her parent’s kidnapping.
When they rendezvous at Conor’s apartment they enter to a macabre tableau…
In the kitchen area is Troublehammer, standing over the KBZ gangbanger, who appears to have had most of the bones in his fingers and toes as well as hands/feet crushed. There’s some blood (of course) due to the size of the sledgehammer used to do so. Conor is standing over and observing, except it’s not Conor, it’s “the other guy” … Lord Nuada. It’s an interrogation as only the Fae … specifically an Ogre and an ancient Sidhe Noble … could provide.
The KBZ banger is only all too willing to provide every bit of information he has. In addition to being a murderer (twice, once for his gang initiation and again last week during a robbery), rapist (too numerous to list), thief (robbery, mugging, extortion, the list goes on), kidnapper (Midori’s parents as well as human trafficking)… he was also well aware of the general plot of the night’s activities.
Specifically, Midori’s parents were kidnapped as part of a contingency plan in the event that their “ogre armor” plan attracted the attention of the Scooby Squad. The deal would be the return of Midori’s parents in exchange for a “status quo ante-bellum” aggrement. Basically, if somehow the Scooby’s got involved, then in return for the Scooby’s getting UN-involved, they’d return Midori’s parents. However, if they managed to kill the Scooby Squad, then the parents would be used as leverage to sell Midori’s mizuage (her virginity) and recoup some financial losses.
Midori’s parents are at the KBZ headquarters… same place as last time… except this time the lair is magically prepared for the Scoobies (or cops).
Lord Nuada “leaves” and Conor sees his apartment… he then walks out his back door.
After leaving it to Troublehammer to dispatch the KBZ ganger and clean up the mess. The heroes plot their action against the KBZ headquarters.
