The chaos in the Metroplex continues. However, even with everything in the supernatural world going crazy (with spillover into the mortal one), some things just stand out as being … really bad news.
While investigating a “tip” – Warden Harper discovers that seven nonagenarians in various assisted care facilities throughout the Metroplex area have been drained of blood. Investigation quickly reveals, no vampire involvement, but over the long month… two additional clues pan out to paint a gruesome picture. In addition to the blood of old people, the second clue involved what (at the time) seemed like “routine” diamond/jewelry thefts. The third clue came when an independent Ogre comes up to Conor, afraid for his life. A skinned, bullet-riddled body of another Ogre is found in a nearby park… the fourth… Conor gets Jaime involved.
Finally, the clues click into place… Ritual Magic.
Jaime uses Thaumaturgy to be able to “see” the last image imprinted on the Ogre’s eye. Normally a difficult process due to the bodies dissolving into Ectoplasmic goop… however, these Ogre’s are remaining intact. Which of course presents another problem… how does a coroner file “skinned eight foot tall non-human” in the database?
It was killed by a clearly asian gang, backed up by a red-skinned ‘demonic’ creature.
After coordinating information with Elena and Erica (and even Uncle) a few more things shake out, the gang is KBZ, and the creature has been encountered before – apparently called a Dokkaebi, a form of Korean Fae. Jamie calls together ‘the Scoobies’ as well as their local contact with law enforcement – Cody the Texas Ranger.
By cross-coordinating their various resources and knowledge (extensive) a picture begins to present itself. Additional strange thefts have occurred, squid ink, expensive mulberry paper, and some raw gold silk. Some form of asian aspected mysticism is clearly in the works – lacking knowledge of the specific word, and armed with a far closer relationship with Japanese culture – the group refers to it as “Shugenja” magic (though clearly this specific case is more Korean – Mugyo/Shingyo).
Jamie puts together (with Erica’s assistance) a pretty massive tracking spell using some trace DNA found at the scene of the jewelry heist (and lifted from evidence by the Ranger). The spells homes in on K-Town and the King Spa (a massive Korean bath and spa facility).
The heroes head down to do light reconnaissance and… as usual with these heroes… soon enough, it escalates into magic (or rather, a potent hexxus), bullets, and fire. There’s one injury, one of the members of KBZ opened fire at the Texas Ranger who, at the time, was carrying his M-4 rifle… it didn’t go well for the KBZ goon.
In a concealed back room, a five-sided “lab” is found, lined with Shingyo (Shugenja) accouterments and clearly a diamond-dust covered Ogre skin, in preparation for some kind of magical ritual. There is evidence that whatever spell that was interrupted has been cast at least three times previously.
An electrical fire in a back causes some damage to the King Spa … at least, that’s how the Newspapers and TV News reports it that night/the next day.
